NFCC to Offer Decision Analysis Workshop

New approaches to fishery issues from management decisions to consumer seafood choice were among topics at a workshop on decision analysis, sponsored by the National Fisheries Conservation Center and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Dr. Lynn A. Maguire, an expert in decision analysis in Duke University�s School of Environment and Earth Sciences, was among the presenters at the event, March 13 and 14, 2003 at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC.

Speakers Featured in New Scientist

Beth Babcock, Brock Bernstein and Ellen Pikitch were interviewed by the magazine for an article on Bayesian probability analysis based on presentations they made at NFCC's workshop in San Jose in July 2002. Bayesian analysis is coming into increasing use in fishery management to help managers accommodate uncertainty and lack of data.
